Airbus qualifies Epsilon for non-destructive testing of A350 XWB carbon tie-rods
Epsilon has been qualified by Airbus for Non-Destructive Testing using tomography, according to AITM 6-7006 “Computed tomography (CT) with X-rays (including planar X-ray tomography)”, and added to Airbus’ Qualified Special Process List (QSPL).
Epsilon is the first supplier to qualify tomography for the serial production of structural composite parts at Airbus, as an alternative to traditionally used processes such as ultrasonic testing.
Compared to ultrasonic testing, tomography has the advantage of improving inspection accuracy and efficiency. Tomography allows us to verify the absence of micro-defects (a few microns) in multi-material parts, as well as compliance with the geometric tolerances of parts and assemblies.
As part of the follow-up of the qualification of this special process, we are regularly audited to verify our maturity level with respect to this demanding control, which is essential to guarantee the material integrity of our composite parts. These audits are an opportunity to demonstrate the robustness and maturity of our quality system regarding the monitoring of our teams’ skills, our equipment, and our overall organization.
